Sod Grass

At Tree Service Flower Mound, we offer full-service sod installation designed to transform your yard quickly and professionally. Whether you're dealing with patchy grass, bare dirt, or a full regrade project, we bring in fresh, healthy sod and install it the right way — from soil prep to final watering instructions.

We don’t just lay grass and leave. We take the time to assess your yard, recommend the right turf for your sun and shade conditions, and walk you through the care process so your investment lasts. If you're ready for a lush, clean lawn with no headaches, we're your crew.

North Texas Grasses

There are three main types of sod commonly used in the North Texas area — and they’re not all created equal. Here’s our honest take on each:

Bremuda

This is our favorite grass for sunny yards. Bermuda is tough, beautiful, and thrives in full sun. It recovers quickly from wear and tear and looks great with proper mowing and watering. It's the best option for most residential yards in DFW — as long as it gets plenty of sunlight.

Zoysia

Zoysia is a good middle ground. It handles a bit more shade than Bermuda, has a soft texture underfoot, and establishes well. It’s a little slower to grow in and a bit more expensive, but it offers a high-end look and great durability if maintained right.

St. Augustine

We’ll install St. Augustine if it’s requested or necessary, but it’s not our favorite. While it tolerates shade better than other grasses, it’s prone to disease, fungus, and cold damage, and quite frankly, it’s just not that attractive. We’ll be honest with you if we think your yard deserves a better option.

Sod Install Process

We take pride in doing sod the right way, not just fast. Here's what our process looks like:

  1. Measuring & Estimating – We come out to measure the square footage and help you decide which grass is best for your conditions.

  2. Sourcing the Sod – We bring in fresh-cut sod from trusted local farms, by the pallet, typically delivered same day or early morning of installation.

  3. Soil Prep – We use tillers to break up the top layer of soil, helping the sod root faster and stronger. This step is key and often skipped by competitors.

  4. Installation – We lay the sod tightly with proper staggering and seam work, roll it down, and make sure all edges are clean and finished.

  5. Watering Plan – We leave every homeowner with a rigorous watering schedule tailored to the time of year and type of sod. This includes how often and when to water, when to mow, and how to keep the sod alive during its critical first few weeks.

Want Bremuda But Have Too Much Shade?

We can help. Bermuda needs at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day to thrive. If your yard is too shady, you’ll constantly battle thinning, bare spots, and disease — no matter how good the sod is.

That’s where our tree knowledge comes in. We can prune or remove trees that are blocking your sunlight and preventing your lawn from reaching its full potential. With a strategic trim or full removal, we can open up the canopy and create a perfect environment for a beautiful Bermuda lawn.
